Biography

Subrat Das, an acclaimed international billiards and snooker player, hails from a deeply rooted, God-fearing family whose proud history stretches beyond a hundred years. Born in the peaceful village of Bellari in Kendrapara, Odisha, Subrat grew up imbibing strong traditional values and a deep sense of dedication. From his early years, he displayed an immense love for sports, starting with chess and cricket before finally finding his true passion in the world of billiards and snooker.

 

A journey defined by relentless hard work and silent perseverance, Subrat Das has carved an inspiring legacy. With an outstanding record of being a 15-time Senior State Billiards and Snooker Champion and winning 31 Open Titles (a state record), he stands as one of Odisha’s and India’s most decorated cueists. His journey to the top was fueled by humility and an unbreakable belief that “work in silence, let your success make the noise.”

Subrat has the unique distinction of being Odisha’s first-ever player to represent the state at the World Billiards Championship. His international achievements include proudly representing India in the IBSF World Billiards Championship, World Matchplay, and the Irish Open Billiards Championship in Ireland, 2025. Additionally, he showcased his skills at the World Snooker Championship in Qatar, 2023, and the Asia Oceania Q-School for Professional Snooker in Thailand, 2024.

At the national level, he has been a consistent performer, achieving a 7th rank at the Indian National Master Snooker Championship 2022–23 in Indore and reaching the quarterfinals at the National Games in Goa, 2023. Remarkably, he was ranked among the Top 10 Snooker Players in India as early as 2011.

Throughout his career, Subrat has demonstrated exceptional consistency, winning 10 Senior Billiards Titles and 5 Snooker State Titles between 2007 and 2024. He holds the state record for five consecutive Senior Billiards State Titles and has a notable hat-trick of Open Titles won in Ranchi, August 2018—a proud state record achievement. He also made history by playing 23 National Championships consecutively from 2002 to 2025, another unparalleled record in Odisha’s sporting annals.

Subrat’s excellence has been recognized with several honors, including felicitation by the Tamil Nadu Billiards & Snooker Association in 2011 and being awarded “Cueist of the Year” by the Billiards & Snooker Association of Odisha in 2007. He was also recognized by the Union Sporting Club for his outstanding achievements.

Beyond his personal triumphs, Subrat is a passionate mentor. He has coached and nurtured several young talents, many of whom have risen to championship levels under his guidance. His futuristic vision focuses on building a strong ecosystem for cue sports in Odisha, aiming to discover, train, and support the next generation of champions.

In his personal life, Subrat loves exploring new cuisines, a hobby that reflects his openness to new experiences. His journey—marked by humility, dedication, and a visionary outlook—continues to inspire many, making him not just a sports icon, but a true ambassador of perseverance and hope.
